As bold of a statement as it is, you should not worry about it as it is backed up with accurate and solid data.
Video games have been around since late 1950s. In 1958, the scientist and physicist William Higinbotham created a game which was called "Tennis for Two" and it resembles what proceeded after a few years, the game "Pong" which released in 1972 and it was running on an arcade, manufactured by Atari.

Ever since, video games have witnessed a huge success. In fact the success can be reflected in revenue.
For example:
In the graph above, we can see how big the gaming industry is and how it outperforms the film industry by twice the margin, whereas the music industry is trailing very far behind.
Aside from the success video games have witnessed, we can denote certain reasons, or perhaps stats that can prove the benefits of video games.
1 - Video games improve concentration and focus:
Not only video games are fun to play, but they can also improve certain cognitive performances in the human brain. For example if you're playing a shooting game, such as Fortnite, Rainbow 6 Siege, Call of Duty... you are likely to be more reactive and attentive than other people as in this type of games where you can play online with individual gamers all around the world, the fastest to react is usually the one who wins or survives, so under these circumstances, you are more than likely to develop fast reaction time and reduce the time it takes to process things, in other words, you upgrade your cranial CPU !
2- Video games enhance your memory:
Video games may, if used properly and accordingly, help you sustain information for a longer period of time. Because when a gamer plunges into a world of any particular video games, and even more if it's related to an RPG game, he has to memorize a plethora of items and elements in the game in order to win / triumph. He has to make the right choices when picking his armor for example, his weapons... This leads him to memorizing certain things, and that by itself improves his memory subconsciously.
3- Video games stimulate creativity:
In this particular aspect, "Creativity", the first thing that comes to the mind of every single gamer is Minecraft. This game has become one of the most successful video games, and is absolutely fun to play. A world where everything is made of cubes, you can build whatever you want, whenever you want, however you want, with nothing but a cube and an axe. This game has forged greatness into the gaming universe, where we could see people actually going from into building small houses, to real life cities and even more, as the game itself is almost infinite in size!
In this video below, we can see that some incredibly talented gamer out there has made this gorgeous duplicate of Hogwarts (Who doesn't want to join Harry Potter and his friends in their magnificent school hey?)
Isn't it just so breathtaking?
4- Choices and Interactive scenarios:
I've personally been a gamer since the age of 4, and I've been playing all types of video games, but nothing can come near the greatness of single player games with multiple choices, endings and gameplay, along with some brilliant actors to make great characters within the game, and gorgeous atmospheres.
On the top of the gaming chart, I would personally throne The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt as the greatest video game that has ever existed.
This particular game would have you drown in a rollercoaster of feelings (sorrow, joy, shock, anger, and more...)
Along with its beautiful atmosphere, and the characters that seem so natural, and on top of that, the music which lets stand in the middle of nowhere doing absolutely nothing, just to gaze upon the magnificent and supercalifragilisticexpialidocious landscape within your field of view.
It is ineffable, no word can describe such a masterpiece of a game, nothing would but actually experiencing it.
I'll leave you with this:
I would like to thank CDProjekt Red for making this majestic masterpiece, and we gamers are looking forward for their next great and one of the most anticipated video games ever,
Cyberpunk 2077
